Getting closer and closer to normal! I was finally able to wash my hair on my own yesterday for the first time since the surgery! I still can’t take a full on shower, but I can definitely throw my head over the side and use the handheld shower head! I am also finally able to drive again!
I got my first fill into the tissue expanders at the last check up with Dr. Durden, the plastic surgeon. One of the side effects of that is my pectoral muscles spasm throughout the day with movement. The is no pain associated with the spasms, just contracting and releasing that actually feels kinda weird. It’s almost like my pecs decided they need to work out all on their own.
The only discomfort that I am having, which is mostly insignificant, is around the edges of the tissue expanders. I am sore there, but it isn’t even anything I would take pain reliever for.
This Thursday I should be getting another fill into the tissue expanders, and I plan to start asking questions regarding the future reconstruction. I want to be sure that Dr. Durden and I are on the same page about what kind of reconstruction I’d like to do and when we might do it.
In the meantime, I am getting around a lot easier on my own (probably doing more than I technically am supposed to ), I am no longer wearing the mastectomy pillow (but I am using the seat belt pillow for protection in the car), and I am working diligently on prepping for a craft show I decided to do in late April here in Carrollton. I am also back at the Carrollton Wind Ensemble rehearsals which is my happy place, so everything is just coming along swimmingly!
Thanks again for everyone’s support, prayers, vibes, and love! Because of all of you, this recovery couldn’t be going any better. Believe me when I say that I know I am one lucky girl! I have the best people lifting me up!
