City of Hope

Tomorrow I will be meeting with a team of physicians/nurses/surgeons at The City of Hope (formerly Cancer Treatment Center of America) in Newnan. They have obtained all of my records so far and should give me their opinion of the status of the cancer and what they think viable treatment options may be. I already show consultations scheduled with the medical oncologist and the breast surgeon in myChart for the 12th and the 14th, so I’m not sure of what information may come tomorrow and what information may wait until those consultations. I am already super impressed with how personable everyone has been over the phone and with the speed in which they moved following my call and inquiry. I did not have to lift a finger to have my medical records transferred over or to check on whether my insurance company would cover treatment there. They handled all of that for me within 2 days! I have my own personal patient advocate that I can call/email/text for any questions I may have. So far I am feeling like this was absolutely the right decision to make. Everything about this cancer will be taken care of in one facility where the entire team will keep each other apprised of any updates. My dad went to the same facility with his experience with cancer, and he has been doing so well since. I hope to update with more specifics after my appointment tomorrow.

Got some good news! The genetic testing came back, and I do not have the genetic mutations that would make me predisposed to breast cancer! Such a relief that I will not be passing this down though my children, but I do think it makes it weirder that I have it in the first place
